Today’s lesson had points of special highlight and emphasis. One such point elaborated on the glorious day when Satan is led away into the wilderness that he may no longer interfere with Church business. It is a day of glory because gospel purveyors are no longer preoccupied with the innuendos of his insidious and false whisperings.
The need for soul affliction on the day of Atonement was another noteworthy point of emphasis. It says,
“27 …and ye shall afflict your souls… 28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God. 29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people … 31 Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall … 32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest “ —Lev 23:27-32”
It specifies “that day”; however, the day of Atonement symbolizes the Adventist period whereby they, as Sabbath keepers, announced to the world the judgment. To afflict one’s soul was determined to be an expression that was purposefully communicated vaguely and with imprecision. The point is noteworthy since all other specifications are very detailed. The imprecision gives the allowance for various definitions depending upon the circumstances of the church as she transit in time and in varying context. In the Adventist’s age, among other things, it became the enforcement of vegetarianism. Isa 58: 1-8 shows this point when it reveals a change in soul affliction as the Church graduates from Jesus’ to Christ’s management. His requisite demanded as a soul affliction the embrace of Israel, the hated and dispossessed, to bring them into the house.
Life for Adventist in this epoch has forced them to be very busy, thus, the son of David has facilitated their need for advance study. Accepting his work; therefore, fulfills their spiritual needs so that they do not have to manifest the same intensity of study to resolve the theological challenges of the day.
It was a joy to finish this paper, Atonement and Amazingly Sufficient Grace, and we look forward to beginning our next SS Assignment: Seven Trumpet Luminescence.
