This week’s lesson has a buildup that elapsed the past several lessons on Atonement. One central theme is grace that affords the forgiveness of sins. But there are two categories of sins which must be remitted: first there are sins of ignorance, and they are covered by the Sin Offering. The second are sins of premeditative awareness; they are covered in the Atonement ritual by a separate sacrament called the Burnt Offering. The concept of “burnt” implies suffering which is proven to mean suffering that a saint must undergo him/herself as remediation for intentional sins. It is not inferred under the fruition of Jesus’s sacrifice on Calvary. Paul expression, “the thorns in the flesh” that he must bear has been shown to capture the theme and meaning of the Burnt Offering.
One Key lesson refuted the banal theme that, since Jesus offered the Sin Offering on Calvary, that such is proof that the antitypical day of Atonement began or occurred then. Proof was offered against this claim as it was shown that before Jesus’ blood could atone for the sins of any, they must be first educated about Jesus. Such was the purpose of the 2000-year Gospel. Those who reject deny Jesus accordingly and cannot benefit from the Atonement Sacrament.
More on the Burnt Offering will be expressed as we advance.
