Excerpt: With this finding, we can more deeply appreciate Christ when He rebuked the Pharisees by telling them that, David is the Lord of the sabbath and by proving this point, we speak to the opening question: We have uncovered the reason why all must reform their ideas of the Sabbath. Heed the following text to witness the low-legal acumen of yesterday’s lawyers. “ 24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do (your disciples) on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? 25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? 26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? 27 And (Christ) said unto them, the sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.” —Mark 2: 24-28. Several points can now be echoed loudly: (one) Legal judgments must be tempered by reading OT Bible history, in this case the saga of ancient David. (Two) The Pharisees, the very masters of the Jews rendered simpleminded verdicts that were devoid of Bible precedence, a resolution that a bar-passing Lawyer would never do. (three) David was not just a Jew or a King: He was, as a Poem, an icon of excellence, to be futuristically honored as a Jew who shall refine the parameters of Sabbath observance.
